Christopher Booker is an author and journalist who spent more than 30 years writing The Seven Basic Plots: why we tell stories. This highly original study used an analysis of myths, fairy tales, plays, novels, films and TV serials to show how seven archetypal plots provide the key to understanding why storytelling is one of the most basic needs of humankind. Widely praised by novelists, playwrights and creative writers, it was a best-seller in the UK.

He has also for many years been a columnist with the London Sunday Telegraph and was the founding editor of the satirical magazine Private Eye.
