Over the past 5 years, Jonathan has produced films starring the likes of Ray Winstone, Richard E Grant, Mark Hamill, Vincent Regan, Danny Dyer, Rik Mayall and Steven Berkoff.
Having made a number of horror and comedy films, Sothcott decided to focus on the ever-popular British crime film in 2012. Citing influences from The Long Good Friday to Layer Cake, he identified a genre of film that outperformed many Hollywood blockbusters in home entertainment sales. He also realised that the majority of UK DVDs are now sold in supermarkets and that solid, high-concept ideas, catchy titles and boisterous covers were the key to packaging these products successfully.
After initial success in the crime genre with White Collar Hooligan (Momentum Pictures) he devised, co-wrote and produced The Fall of the Essex Boys for distributor Metrodome. The film sold some 60,000 units in its first 3 months of release – a phenomenal result as HMV and Blockbuster slid into administration. His next film as producer, Vendetta, reunited him with frequent collaborator Danny Dyer for an urban vigilante tale in East London.
Summer 2013 sees Sothcott producing Top Dog for Universal Pictures, adapted for the big screen by Green Street writer Dougie Brimson and starring Leo Gregory.
Jonathan is CEO of London-based indie Richwater Films. He lives in Sussex.
