Sarah ScougalHead of Development | Vertigo Films
Sarah has over a decade of experience in film and TV. She currently runs development at Vertigo Films, one of the UK’s most prolific and successful independent production companies, with over 30 features in their 10 year history released to both commercial and critical acclaim.
Vertigo produces a broad slate of films, from Nicholas Winding Refn’s Bronson, Monsters, Nick Love’s The Football Factory and The Sweeney, to Streetdance and Horrid Henry.
Upcoming films include 80s musical Walking On Sunshine, sci-fi action Kill Command, the sequel to Monsters: Dark Continent, and family movie Pudsey.
Vertigo also has a TV arm, a distribution arm, as well as a stake in UK sales company Protagonist Pictures.
Sarah began her career making short films and theatre at the Royal Court Young Writers’ Programme, before moving into development roles with companies including The BBC, New Line Cinema, TWI, Working Title, Stephen Fry’s Sprout Pictures and The Movie Package Company in Los Angeles.
Sarah also has two screenplays in development, and her short film The Reinvention was recently completed, starring Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire).
Vertigo are principally looking for contemporary high-concept low budget genre features with international appeal – and by that I mean any film that fits clearly into a recognisable genre – be that family, sci-fi, action, romance etc. We want ambitious ideas with a sense of scale that can be achieved on a low to medium budget. We are also particularly looking for family films and have yet to find the right comedy to add to the slate!
