with Mellie Buse
Getting your work commissioned, produced and broadcast for the 0-6 year old’s market.
Mellie Buse has contributed to some of the Industry’s most popular and successful children’s television brands as a writer, head writer, script editor or Producer – including Angelina Ballerina, The New Adventures of Captain Pugwash, Fireman Sam, The Magic Roundabout, Guess With Jess and Mopatop’s Shop and Charlie and Lola. She also created the three times BAFTA nominated Grandpa In My Pocket which was the first live action show of it’s kind for a pre-school audience and has been sold to over a hundred territories.
Mellie returns to the LSF to head up this exclusive LAB designed specifically for writers who have developed material aimed at the pre-school audience . As Mellie says…”People think that writing for Pre-School is easy and it is, in fact very specific and quite challenging. The rules, the content and the formats are totally different from those you explore when writing for an older age range”.
Successful applicants will join Mellie for this intense LAB and through workshopping and collaboration, will take their work to the next level and leave with material of a standard ready to submit to broadcasters and commissioners.
The six selected writers for this LAB will undergo an intense writing ‘lock-in’ with Mellie for three hours over the LSF weekend. If you are selected you will also be expected to read ALL six projects in this lab, as will Mellie.
There will also be an online ‘meet-up’ before AND after the festival so that we can begin work before the lab and continue it beyond the LSF. We want the group to bond and offer a continued support network.
Expect competition for the six slots to be high, so only submit when your work is the best that it can be.
OK to be considered you will need to submit:
You will be asked to supply
- A logline
- A 1 page synopsis
- 3 pages ONLY (from anywhere in the script)
- Supporting statement about you and the project, giving context
