Coinciding with the BFI’s definitive Hitchcock retrospective, Gabriella Apicelli and Ian Long of Euroscript present a Masterclass on creating suspense. Using examples from some of his most iconic films, as well as his early work, this session, specially commissioned by the BFI, will analyse the techniques that made Hitchcock the undisputed ‘Master of Suspense’. By isolating the ways in which he created tension this session will identify screenwriting tricks that can be used across any genre, demonstrating how scenes can be transformed from the merely expositional to exciting and essential.

Wrong-footing your second-guessing audience, and surprising producers with unexpected yet believable twists are essential tools to creating a memorable screenplay. Having worked out how Hitch did it, we will pass the knowledge on to you!
