with Jack Bernhardt
Jack Bernhardt heads up this day long writers lock-in where six successful applicants will workshop topical gags and sketches informed by the news of the day. Recipient of the BBC Radio Comedy Writer’s Bursary, Jack has written for a wide range of shows and regularly contributed to series such as The News Quiz and Dead Ringers.
Replicating his experience working on The News Quiz, Jack will take the successful candidates through the creative working process before diving into the newspapers to forage for comedy gold.
With potential stories selected, Jack will break down the process and structuring of a gag before setting assignments for the room. Repetition breeding success, the comedy conveyor will be on overdrive with an emphasis on speed, volume and staying ahead of the curve (as it would be in a real world professional environment).
The ultimate aim of the Comedy Incubator will be for delegates to leave with a rich stash of fresh gags, ready to pitch to the comedy big boys the next day. Throughout the day Jack will also share his experience and advice on how and where to take your gags/sketches for the best chances of seeing your work produced and broadcast.
Expect competition for the six slots to be high, so only submit when your work is the best that it can be.
OK to be considered you will need to submit:
- Three fully developed topical gags.
- Writers’ Resume
- 500 words on why it is essential for you to take part in the Comedy Incubator
