Daniel Brierley is a British screenwriter and playwright, best known as the creator and writer of the hit ITV thriller Trigger Point.
Daniel Brierley is a British screenwriter and playwright working across television, film, animation and theatre. He graduated with an MA in Screenwriting from the National Film and Television School and began his career writing for the stage, with plays including Turning Barley, The Hobo Code (Soho Theatre), Daytrippers (Theatre Royal Stratford East), and Farmyard Rules (Bush Theatre).
Brierley’s early screen work includes the BBC short film My Face in Space, which was nominated for Best British Short at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2012. In 2014 he won the BAFTA Rocliffe New Comedy Award, leading to further development work with major broadcasters and production companies in the UK and internationally.
He is the creator and writer of the hit ITV drama Trigger Point, starring Vicky McClure. The series premiered in 2022 and became one of the UK’s most-watched dramas of the year, averaging around nine million viewers per episode and winning the National Television Award for Best New Drama.
Alongside his television work, Brierley has developed projects with companies including Channel 4, Hattrick, and Tiger Aspect, and has been selected for several industry development schemes including the BFI NETWORK talent programme and the Aardman / BFI feature film development scheme.
Originally from Somerset and now based in London, Brierley continues to develop original television, film and animation projects with UK and international partners.
