Deborah Haywood is a writer-director drawn to stories of outsiderhood, intimacy, and emotional intensity. Her debut feature Pin Cushion opened Critics’ Week at the Venice International Film Festival to critical acclaim, earning 4★ reviews and being named a Critic’s Pick by The New York Times. She was named one of Harper’s Bazaar’s “Biggest Breakout Female Filmmakers” and is a Screen International Star of Tomorrow.
Her second feature, Beak, developed with the BFI, is currently in financing, and she is in development with BBC Films. Deborah is a BAFTA and Academy member, a BIFA voter, and a judge for the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting.
She teaches at MetFilm School, Birmingham. She is represented by Mark Casarotto (UK) and Sandra Lucessi (USA).
