What sets Christopher Vogler apart from other screenwriting practitioners and ‘gurus’ is his approach.
I have had the privilege of attending a masterclass by Christopher Vogler at a film festival in 2013. Having studied his book, The Writer’s Journey for my dissertation, this was a real treat.
I thought I knew what to expect, as I was so familiar with his book, but hearing the man, the myth, the legend speak and apply his insight into films, both linear and non-linear, blew my mind and taught me more about my own writing than I expected.
Intrigued? Well you should be.
I won’t go into too much detail here, as I don’t want to spoil your ‘light bulb’ moments, but I will share this: His mythic and psychological approach to archetypes will make you see your characters in a refreshingly new way. His approach to narrative, by following the different stages of the hero’s journey, will help you step back from the details of your own script and see the bigger picture.
If you are hesitating on whether to attend his lecture, don’t.
