“Tantric Beauty is a British Sex comedy about a group of women save their failing spa by turning it into a high-class brothel, staffed by beautiful men whose only desire is the satisfaction of their customers – the lucky women of Dulwich Village. The only problem is, the men have to become fully qualified beauticians, as well as lovers, to keep their cover.”
That was my winning Pitch Factor entry at the London Screenwriters’ Festival, and the first time I had managed to explain Tantric Beauty so eloquently. It took me eight years to condense the universe I had created for Tantric Beauty down to that one simple paragraph. When judges Joel Schumacher, Dave Reynolds, Isabelle Pechou, Steve LaRue and Bob Schultz selected my pitch as the winner, I never imagined that would be the start of a journey that would – now, two years later — see my project produced.
On the strength of that pitch, everyone loves it, it goes up the chain, but eventually, it hits a guy who says, “I don’t get it.” And it dies.
It’s been written and re-written and re-written! It’s been a TV series, a movie, and now, a web series.
You may think I’m a very patient woman. I am not. But I have tenacity, which generally yields the same result. So I eventually came to know that if I was going to get Tantric Beauty made, I was going to have to do it myself.
So I took out a loan, borrowed a friend’s house who was away for half term, and found a super-producer in Kay Loxley who pulled together an amazing cast and crew in two weeks with a tiny budget.
Now we have a finished film that we’re very chuffed with, and we’re underway on the next step in the process: Taking it to advertisers to sponsor the rest of the series.
