Life has a way of gate crashing our gameplan and shuffling the cards around. Dealing us a surprise hand.
This happened for one of our speakers for this year’s festival.
Kate Leys (pic here from last years LSF) is one of our veterans, an outstanding educator whose sessions receive 100% positive feedback year on year. However, this year, Kate was involved in a car accident and needed to very understandably pull out.
I shared this during my keynote introduction to the festival and spontaneously we, as a community, decided to create an awesome ‘get well’ card, something to let Kate know how much we all loved her and wished her a speedy recovery.
What manifested was a long roll of paper, signed by hundreds of our delegates, all with personal messages for Kate.
We rolled it up and sent it to Kate and we just got this message back from her…
‘I’m typing this very slooowly with one finger as I still have one arm in plaster & a broken collarbone. I was so sorry to miss the Festival this year, & so frustrated. It meant the world to read all your lovely messages: nobody ever knows quite what to do when someone is bashed up in an accident, but you lot did. You sent me love. And made me cry!
