James Skinner is a London-based director, writer and teacher. He first developed a passion for filmmaking whilst studying Youth and Community Development (BA) at university. This led to an MA in Media Practice for Development and Social Change, through which he specialised in documentary production.
In recent years, James has turned his attention to directing and producing narrative short films including ‘Fabulous’, which was the winner of the DepicT! Main Award at Encounters Film Festival 2020. His short films ‘Newbie’, ‘The Letter’ and ‘Helping Hands’ have been selected and nominated at BIFA, BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying film festivals (including Aesthetica, Crystal Palace, Carmarthen Bay and New York International Children’s Film Festival ). His latest short film ‘Pigeonholes’ is about to start its journey on the festival circuit.
Alongside his independent filmmaking, James teaches film and media production in a South London Sixth Form College and delivers freelance filmmaking workshops.
