I attended the very first London Screenwriters Festival in 2010 and was instantly hooked. A few months later, I found an agent and signed a two book deal. Unfortunately, my second novel did not do too well and I found myself not wanting to write historical novels anymore. My head was teeming with ideas which needed a more visual medium of expression like a screenplay. But I was intimidated by the format.
When I found out about the Talent Campus I applied. I didn’t get through. I was gutted. I applied again the following year and this time I was in!
What an incredible journey it was. Just what I needed, for it took us right from the basics, starting with the logline, nailing the structure, to pitching. The first time I pitched at LSF Pitchfest I remember the glazed look on the faces of the executives and producers. But when I pitched after completing Talent Campus, the executives, agents and producers were leaning forward and wanted to hear more.
I have attended every single London Screenwriters Festival ever since it started. Have enjoyed and benefitted from the myriad initiatives like the Actors’ Table Read, the Script Surgery and all the other sessions. I have also made some wonderful friends for life and received invaluable feedback and advice from the wonderful teachers and mentors.
I will see you at the next London Screenwriters’ Festival!
