Nikolai comes from a visual effects background, directing award winning commercials and music videos. He has worked as a writer: (treatment writer – In Touch -Winner 2019 IDFA Doc fest, screen story – Mission Na Marsa – Winner, 2016 Iceland Film Fest., Screenplay – Wickham – Winner Best Pitch – FEST Portugal 2017), as well as mixing directing, producing and cinematography:
He has released Dear Child, a feature documentary produced and shot in Rio de Janeiro which won Ferrara UNICEF award 2021, The Art of Waiting a political short film produced/shot in Beirut which premiered at the 2019 Venice Biennale, and produced/shot From The Mountain a Syrian/Jordanian production about the Arab revolt of 1921.
He has just recently completed a feature documentary Island Nation as writer-director-cinematographer-editor, an elegy to a disappearing life on a remote arctic island, released in festivals in 2026.
