RJ Beesley is a London-based writer and creative with a background spanning children’s publishing, memoir, and creative writing education. He has written children’s books across multiple age groups and a memoir drawn from the decade he spent as a stay-at-home father in Hong Kong, an experience that proved formative in more ways than one. It was during those years in Asia that he developed a deep love for Chinese cinema, and later, a fascination with its evolution into the vertical drama format that is now reshaping global entertainment.
With involvement in the Raindance Film Festival and experience teaching creative writing in both Asia and the UK, RJ brings an unusually broad cultural and storytelling perspective to the microdrama space, which includes genuine fluency in the Chinese creative traditions that originated the format and continue to drive it.
He joins the new microdrama studio and streaming platform operating under North 7 Media as the company prepares to launch its slate of original series in 9:16 portrait format, targeting European and North American audiences across iOS, Android, and social platforms.

We’re focused on the genres driving the format’s growth: romance, adventure, and melodrama. We focus exclusively on high-energy stories built around cliffhangers and binge momentum.
