Steve Kaplan is one of the industry’s most respected comedy experts and author of the bestselling “The Hidden Tools of Comedy” and “The Comic Hero’s Journey: Serious Story Structure for Fabulously Funny Films.”
As founder and Artistic Director of Manhattan Punch Line Theatre, he helped launch the careers of actors like Oliver Platt and Nathan Lane, and writers including David Ives and Peter Tolan. Kaplan created the HBO Workspace and HBO New Writers Program, and has taught at major institutions including UCLA, NYU, and Yale. His expertise has been sought by major studios including DreamWorks, Disney Animation, and Aardman Animation.
He conducts his renowned Comedy Intensive workshops globally, teaching thousands of students the craft of comedy writing, and is currently working on a book about writing comedy for television.
