Eight years ago, Lucy was a first-time LSF attendee with no clear path into the industry. Since then, she’s been learning by doing – from micro-shorts shot with a jumper as a dolly, to writing, producing and directing her own feature film.
Along the way, she discovered something simple but powerful: once your work is in motion, people respond differently. The industry pays more attention to what’s already happening than to what might happen – and it’s far easier to build on something real that exists.
Drawing on fringe theatre, independent filmmaking, and hands-on production, this session explores how making your own work not only strengthens your craft, but shifts how the industry relates to you. It’s all about reclaiming agency, generating momentum, and stopping the wait for that ever-elusive green light – by switching it on yourself.
