I am neck deep in prep for this years biggest ever London Screenwriters’ Festival and just received this email from past LondonSWF delegate Leon Fitch and I asked him if I could share it…
I attended the festival for the first time last year and I have wanted to message you since that October weekend to offer you my gratitude for the event. So here it is:
Thank you.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but there is nowhere else in the World where an event (quite like this) is held. For someone who has a desk job — and has had incredibly difficult struggles in adapting to the daily, unimaginative mundane environment of a corporate office — the festival was nothing short of a blessing to me. For the first time in my life I felt I was surrounded by hundreds of people like me. I was no longer expressing unrequited fascination and passion; I was no longer looked at as strange; I no longer felt frustrated by the limitations of my every day life.
This all occurred during your opening speech — and I may not have the talent to break into the industry and become a professional writer, but the validation and acceptance of who I am and where my passion truly lies was underlined in a way that probably would never occurred to me without this event.
So once again: Thank you for you and your team’s efforts. I look forward to feeling, once again, at home this October.

For me this encompasses why so many people return to the festival.And I can promise that feeling we all get is going to go through the roof this year… It’s going to be EPIC!
